This late-13th century, 327-meter (1,073 feet) mine consists of almost 3,000 chambers. A 3.5-kilometer (2.18 miles) tourist route takes visitors along the mine's rock-salt walls, which are lined with inlays of biblical scenes and sculptures of saints. Chandeliers fashioned out of salt crystals illuminate the underground chapels and chambers. Breathing the salty air is beneficial for those suffering from respiratory tract ailments. The Underground Rehabilitation and Treatment Centre is located in the mine's Lake Wessel Chamber
